Charlotte Chinese Story Time had the joy of returning to the 5th Annual Taste of China Festival at Downtown Cary Park. This was our second year participating in this wonderful statewide celebration—and it felt just as exciting and heartwarming as the first time.
Our booth at Non-Food Booth #66 quickly filled with families eager to explore Chinese culture. Throughout the day, visitors of all ages stopped by to create art, try traditional crafts, and learn more about our programs back in Charlotte.

What We Brought to the Festival
Just like last year—only even bigger and better—we prepared a series of hands-on cultural activities:
Chinese Block Printing – children loved stamping plum blossoms and traditional designs
Calligraphy Name Scrolls – personalized name scrolls written by our team
Cloisonné Craft Making – colorful enamel pieces kids were excited to take home
Lantern Craft for Kids – bright paper lanterns full of creativity
Lacquer Fan Painting – elegant fans decorated with vibrant patterns
Cultural Artworks & Handmade Creations – showcasing traditional Chinese artistry

Kids were fully immersed from the moment they picked up a brush or tried their first print. Many parents shared that these cultural experiences were rare and meaningful opportunities for their children.

A Joyful Surprise: The God of Wealth
One of the liveliest highlights of the day was the appearance of two God of Wealth (财神爷) mascots!
They greeted visitors, posed for photos, and brought a burst of festive happiness to the entire festival. The laughter and joy around our booth made the autumn day even more memorable.

Why Returning Matters
Coming back to Taste of China for the second time holds special meaning for us.
As a nonprofit dedicated to sharing Chinese language and culture with families in the Charlotte region, being part of this festival allows us to:
connect with communities across North Carolina
share cultural traditions with new audiences
inspire children through meaningful hands-on experiences
deepen our role in celebrating diversity and cultural exchange
We are grateful to the festival organizers for welcoming us back, and to every visitor who stopped by with curiosity and enthusiasm. Your support encourages us to keep expanding what we do.
What’s Next
Charlotte Chinese Story Time continues to offer:
monthly bilingual storytime at local public libraries
cultural workshops and kids’ programs
the annual Charlotte Cup Chinese Poetry Recitation Contest
and our upcoming Chinese Lunar New Year Cultural Fair and Children’s Lunar New Year Showcase in February 2026
We look forward to bringing more cultural events and educational programs to families throughout the region.
Thank you, Cary, for another warm and vibrant year.
And thank you to our dedicated volunteers and families—your support and energy are the heart of everything we do.
