We welcomed the Year of the Rabbit with a joyful and vibrant celebration at South County Library! This special Chinese New Year Story Time drew more than 35 families, filling the entire community room with excitement, laughter, and the spirit of the season.

The session was led by Ms. Julie and Ms. Jingjing, who guided children and families through an engaging program that combined stories, music, movement, and cultural crafts.

The morning began with a cheerful Welcome Song in Chinese, followed by a lively reading of the picture book 《过年啦! (It’s Chinese New Year!)》, which introduced children to traditional New Year customs such as hanging red decorations, preparing festive food, and watching lion dances. Everyone joined in a fun finger play activity about Chinese New Year, learning new words through rhythm and gestures.

To bring creativity into the celebration, families also enjoyed making red paper lanterns — a beloved Chinese New Year craft symbolizing brightness and good fortune. The children proudly showed off their colorful lanterns, and many came dressed in beautiful traditional Chinese clothing, including qipaos and festive red outfits.

The event was filled with joy, cultural discovery, and community connection. Parents and children alike shared smiles and laughter while learning about Chinese language and traditions in a hands-on way.

We are deeply grateful to all the families who joined us, and to Ms. Julie and Ms. Jingjing for leading this wonderful celebration.

Wishing everyone a Happy Chinese New Year — 新年快乐!
