On June 7, 2025, Charlotte Chinese Story Time proudly hosted its inaugural President’s Volunteer Service Award (PVSA) Ceremony, recognizing a group of dedicated young volunteers for their outstanding contributions to the community. This national award highlights a full year of service, learning, and growth.
The event brought together nearly ten families and special guests in a warm and joyful atmosphere. After a relaxed lunch gathering, the ceremony officially began at 1:00 PM, hosted by Jenny—founder of Charlotte Chinese Story Time—who opened with a heartfelt speech reflecting on the impact of youth service.
What is the PVSA?
The President’s Volunteer Service Award is a prestigious national honor established by the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation. It recognizes individuals and groups who demonstrate sustained commitment to volunteerism over the course of a year.
Awards are granted based on total hours of service and are divided into three levels: Bronze, Silver, and Gold.
In February 2025, Charlotte Chinese Story Time became an officially certified PVSA organization. This year marks our first time nominating children and families who have consistently participated in our community programs—and each of them earned their award with pride.
Highlights from the Ceremony
Each young honoree was invited on stage to receive their official medal and certificate, presented by guest speakers and community leaders. Proud families captured the moment with photos and applause.

Among this year’s recipients, the youngest awardee was just 7 years old—yet had already volunteered at more than ten storytime sessions!
In her speech, Jenny shared:
“These children may be young, but their sense of responsibility and compassion is truly inspiring. We believe the seeds of service have already quietly taken root in their hearts.”
More Than a Medal—It’s a Mindset
The ceremony was more than a celebration of past efforts; it was a reminder that service can shape character, build confidence, and connect hearts.
Many parents shared that they’ve seen their children grow more patient, more thoughtful, and more willing to engage. Through storytelling, helping others, and leading by example, these young volunteers are learning life skills that will last far beyond one year.
